SEASON 2009-2010

The Secret Garden and Others Works – Masterful

An evening of premieres, an elixir that is sure to warm your heart.

Bruce Monk returns with a new work to the music of Pink Floyd that will perhaps take you back but will definitely stir your senses.

Late Canadian Norbert Vesak’s masterpiece Belong to the music of Syrinx will be part of the program. This pas de deux became ballerina Evelyn Hart's signature piece and won a gold medal for choreography at the Varna International Ballet Competition in 1980. The aesthetic beauty, extreme technique and physicality of the work will leave you breathless. Truly a Canadian choreographic landmark.

As well a surprise work with international guest artists and more world class choreography! Artistic Director Paul Destrooper presents a new one-act ballet to Joseph Haydn’s piano trio for The Secret Garden. The story is based on the play that Michael Shamata, Artistic Director of the Belfry Theatre, had adapted. This touching story lends itself to the spirit and culture of Victoria, the City of Gardens. The work, performed to live music will take your heart on a journey from the arid corners of ones soul to the fruitful garden of hope and perseverance.
