Alice in Wonderland - The Tale

Alice in Wonderland, first published in 1865 by Lewis Carroll as “Alice’s Adventures through Wonderland”, is a beloved classic of children’s literature known for its imaginative narrative and playful logic. In 1951, Walt Disney’s animated film brought the tale to life on screen, later followed by Tim Burton’s darker 2010 live-action version that sparked a trend in fairy tale films. Commissioned by The Royal Ballet premiered Alice in Wonderland in February 2011, with choreography by Christopher Wheeldon and score by Joby Talbot. After learning of the production Karen Kain, former artistic director of the National Ballet of Canada, proposed a co-production. Canada had its North American premiere shortly after The Royal Ballet’s. The ballet evolved from two to three acts and has since been performed internationally by prestigious companies including the Royal Swedish Ballet, Royal Danish Ballet, The Australin Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, and the New National Theatre Tokyo. Alice in Wonderland dives into absurdity, touches curiosity, meets peculiar creatures, and plays with logic, all blending reality with fantasy.
