The Connection
Vlad Tepes, born in Transylvania as the second son of nobleman Vlad II Dracul, became known as Dracula, meaning “son of Dracul,” upon his induction ...into the secretive Order of the Dragon. This order, composed of Christian knights, held a prominent position in Romanian history and folklore, intertwining the imagery of dragons with Vlad’s legacy. The Romanian word “Dracul” carries a dual connotation, signifying both “dragon” and “devil,” adding layers of complexity to the name and the character it represents.
Our Ballet
In BV’s rendition of Dracula, our costume designer, Jane Wood, skillfully intertwines these dragon motifs, evoking a sense of power, intrigue and the heraldic history of Dracula. As the vampire brides take the stage adorned with these tattoo like symbols, they embody the timeless struggle between light and darkness, passion and redemption.

DECEMBER 15th Zoom auditions for @balletvictoria Aspirant Program!
The Aspirant program is a two-year post-secondary program that has been approved by the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) of the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training.
The program challenges emerging ...artists and prepares them for the professional world. Dancers will develop their artistic and technical skills in ballet, pointe work, pas de deux, repertoire and all facets related to the profession. Students will study classical and contemporary variations as well as Ballet Victoria's current repertoire and participate in company rehearsals as required. They will also have the opportunity to be cast in all of BV's mainstage productions both in Victoria and on tour across North America.
Aspirants will take daily company classes led by BV's Artistic Director Paul Destrooper. Additionally, students will work one on one with Artistic Director of the Ballet Victoria Conservatory, Andrea Bayne. Andrea was
Ballet Victoria's Prima Ballerina for over a decade and is currently BV's Artist in Residence.

It serves as a powerful reminder that the stories of sacrifice and resilience, much like those represented by the candles in that elementary school gymnasium, continue to shape and resonate in our lives today.
